In Search of the Goodness of God.

Oh taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.

Psalm 34:8

The scriptures are filled with accounts of how good God is. One of the most quoted verses of God’s goodness is Psalm 34:8: Oh taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.

But I’m also fascinated by two other verses:

For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations. Psalm 100:5

The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him. Nahum 1:7

The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him. Nahum 1:7

Paul’s writing to the Philippians says “whatever is good, whatever is worthy, whatever is holy etc., think on these things.”

Searching for the goodness of God in our lives, and in life generally, is a way to combat stress, being down cast, depression, and it is a way to cast down every stronghold and a way to cast down every thought that exalts itself against the knowledge of God.

Searching for the goodness of God throughout our walk with Christ is a great tool to keeping our faith active and seeing results of a working faith. Trust me, this is a practice worth committing to with your husband, your children and friends. Imagine how peaceful sleep would be if at the end of each day during or after dinner your husband, yourself and your children sat down to reflect on the day and sharing where you all saw God’s goodness that day. Learning to find his goodness even in the middle of a stormy season will build you up.

This behaviour is something we learn; we teach ourselves and our children. Each new day would be exciting. You and yours would start each day in anticipation. And dinner time would be a bask in testimonies of God’s goodness. Even if you are a single woman or student, this is something you can embark on, practice. Are you busy? Hectic schedule? Learn to take a few minutes to not only give thanks for the sake of giving thanks, but to search for his goodness and give him thanks. Even a minute is enough when we start. Make the time to at the art of God, that is, his goodness to you and your life.

Ladies, you might not do it all that good in the beginning but consistency is key. Be gentle and extend grace to yourself. Keep on, keeping on searching for goodness and at the end of each day, reflect on how and where the goodness of God was actively visible in your life and day. Just create space in your schedule to search for God’s goodness in your life. You will see it.

We pay attention to the bad, negative and the ugly by default. Therefore, we are drawn to the negative, complaints and such. But when we train ourselves to search for God’s goodness then life becomes better, our hearts, minds and health become better. This is something you can do regardless of your season, status and position in life. We all can do it and all of us ought to be seeking first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness, and search for the goodness of God in ourlives and in life generally. If, for some reason you don’t see it in your life, though it is there, realise that you he is not condemning you. In addition to that, because you don’t see his goodness doesn’t mean he is not being good to you. If you don’t see God’s goodness in your life, take a look at the people around you. You will see Him. And when you do, give thanks. Don’t complain or be angry. Give God gratitude even for the things he is doing in other people’s lives, even if those things are what you want in your own life.

See, when we do this, praise becomes our second nature. Thanksgiving becomes like breathing. Prayer is always continuing. Worship is always from the heart and true, in spirit and in truth. John 4:24 experience. God’s word needs to be practised not only mediated on.

We must be in search of the goodness of God in everything, every day. This is our victory over the enemy, our victory over life, over depression, over failure and defeat.

Seeing God at work even when we miss the mark and fail leaves no room for condemnation.

Search for the goodness of Abba today and worship.
