The Person of the Holy Spirit
And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever – John 14:16
Who is the Holy Spirit, or the Person of the Holy Spirit? The Holy Spirit (or Holy Ghost as other translations and versions state), is God! He is the third Person of the Godhead. Remember, God is three in one. This is a mystery that no man can fully fathom with the natural mind. To understand the Holy Trinity in its fullness, you need the Holy Spirit to explain and reveal it to you. The Holy Spirit is God and He lives in you.
After Jesus rose from the dead, appeared to many and spent His time with His disciples, He was taken up to heaven and returned to His Father (John 16:28, 17:11, 13). Read Acts 1:10! Just before He left the world though, after His resurrection, He said these things with regards to the Holy Spirit: (1) wait for the promise of the Father; (2) you shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost, (3) you shall receive power after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you (Acts 1:4-8). And indeed the Holy Spirit did come and the apostles did receive power when He came (Acts 2:1-4).
Prior His crucifixion, the Lord Jesus spent time with the disciple teaching even about the Holy Spirit. As we have seen in Acts 1:4-8, the Holy Spirit is a promise from God the Father. The Holy Spirit, is God’s gift to us (Acts 2:38). Before we continue, let me make this statement, you don’t have to do anything to receive the Holy Spirit. You only have to believe! That’s it. You don’t have to fast! You don’t have to tithe! You don’t have be a leader at a church! No! You only have to believe in Jesus Christ the Son of God, and you shall have the Holy Spirit.
Let’s go a little bit deeper on the Person of Holy Spirit. This is the dispensation of the Holy Spirit. We ought to be giving heed to Him more than we give attention to prosperity, getting married, building churches and all these other things we set our minds and hearts to. The moment we start listening to the voice, prompting and guidance of the Holy Spirit, being conscious of His Presence and Being, then all these things shall we have. Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness (Mat 6:33). To know the Kingdom of God you need the Holy Spirit (read 1 Corinthians 2:9-12), and you must have accepted Christ Jesus as Lord to receive the Holy Spirit. Let’s begin!
But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. – 1 Corinthians 2:9-12
