Our Father’s Bond (Part 2)
Our Relationship to the Father
“…as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name” John 1:12.
We are related to God in two ways. First, we are related to God by creation. In the beginning God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness” Genesis 1:26. We are His creation. This has nothing to do with being born again or receiving Christ Jesus. No! Here you are related to God because He made, created and formed you (Jeremiah 1:4-5). Secondly, we have a relationship with God because we received His Son whom He sent into the world to save us (John 5:23, 6:29).
Our relationship with God and to Him does not originate from ourselves. It is completely God’s idea. We are in a relationship with Him because He decided and chose to give or have us have a relationship with Him. We had no part in originating the relationship. We only have to partake in what God has started, for His pleasure and our benefit.
The second relation we have to God presents us with this truth that now He is for us (Rom 8:31), He is with and in us (1 Corinthians 3:16); He is our father (Gal 4:5-7), He continually shares His love – filling our hearts (Rom 5:5). He constantly gives us His grace (Rom 5:20, Heb 4:16, James 4:6). He’s made us His righteous (2 Corinth 5:21). He has forgiven our sins (Ephesians 4:32, Col 2:13).
“And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.” – Romans 5:5
This is the eternal blessing bestowed on us.
